Sine Qua Non Offer out

SQN is easily available in the secondary market and past buyers may not want to be tied down to an allocation when they can source a few bottles fairly easily only months after release. It’s not very rare anymore and has lost a lot of it’s allure IMO.

I don’t think there’s any problems with the vintage or the wine quality. For myself, I’m less interested in the Distenta and more interested in the EBA bottling (and the white!). So if people feel the same way as me, they may want to offload their non-EBA Distenta bottles so they can remain in good standing on the list and buy the EBA wines. Also, pricing has gone up which affects the “flippability” and makes it more serious - for my $200 do I want a bottle of SQN or 2 heavy-hitter CDPs or a $200 Napa cab or a $200 bordeaux, I can’t buy them all. Manfred speaks to this in the mailer - “we completely understand that there is a lot of wine opportunity out there” etc…

I am trying to square the “people are declining allocations” posts with the “allocations are being cut” posts. Was this crop unusually small? It seems from the above that the waiting list is still many years long.

Just curious. The things I read seem to be pointing in opposite directions

I was speaking only to the existing members who may be declining their current allocations or wishing to reduce. My understanding is the 2021 SB/SLO vintage is very well regarded with a somewhat lower yield from drought conditions, but nothing indicates the crop being unusually small to result in long time buyers allocations cut.

Maybe it’s the naming. Distenta is boring. I used to look forward to the names of each release. And I was hoping for another banned label.

Distenta sounds like a new hernia pharmaceutical.

Or sooner if folks drop off at a faster rate than usual.

Eric…I too have been on since 2005…allocation last year was cut to 6+3…this year 3+3. Long history of buying full allocation as high as 12+9…EBAs and magnums too.

Was told they want to make room for those on the waitlist a long time. What i don’t understand is why new additions are receiving larger allocations.

Quick response from Amber confirmed I am still on the waitlist and a “newbie” at only 6 years and counting…

This being said, still no letter of eternal hope since 2021, strange…

such a strange way to treat your long-standing customers, particularly without explanation of any kind. Gray, I am happy for you, and I would have said the same thing - up until it wasn’t so great.

I joined the waitlist July 2017, so at the 6 year mark as well… I assume around 2028 we will get an allocation…

Signed up 9.75 years ago and just bought 3+3. Was surprised that these were cheaper than NoK. I was on the NoK waitlist for only 3 years before getting an allocation last year. Great stuff.

Are whites and EBA wines offered in separate allocations, or did I just not get any?

Separate allocations. EBA and whites offered in Jan/Feb. Regular bottles Aug/Sep.

But they are related. I bought 1 of each 2020 Distenta and then was offered 1 of each of the 2019 EBA’s that were offered right after that. I called and they said I was offered less EBA because I only bought 1 Distenta, but they then manually sold me the normal 3+3 box set.

Been busy and missed the initial fuzz, open my allocation and it’s cut for the first time (I know others has been the last several vintages)
I have always had 6+6 I think minus the short vintage. Anyways 3+3 now without any explanation.

This family business has always been the epitome of customer service. I’ve received voicemails from Elaine herself just reminding me to order In case I forgot.
Now many long timers are getting cut without explanation?

This is after offering me 2 EBA last release when I didn’t even request an extra (I get 1 every year). And yes I took the extra…wtf

Perhaps you should call and inquire about why your allocation was cut? I’d like to know.

I just got an email from Elaine, it seems they maybe realized the made a mistake

Hello Eric,

We have been trying to pick up customers from the overly long wait list and it appears that there has been some unhappiness created.

From the email correspondence below please clarify what you would prefer, a larger allocation and if so, what quantities you would be pleased with or that we remove you from the mailing list?

Kind Regards,

Elaine Krankl
