Since when was entry level Meursault so damn expensive?

Thoughts on Lafarge Meursault VS?

I have six cases of lafarge reds in my cellar…no whites…as I recall the aligote can be very good but have not had it in several years…the last time i had the Meursault Clinton was president

Agreed.

I tried a Lafon burg blanc in Phoenix last month and it was off the charts delicious for around $40 retail.

Sean,

What was the origin of the grapes for that Lafon wine…Macon?? Cote d Or??

It seems to me that nowadays wines from the Cote Chalonnaise and lesser villages in the Cote d Or --St Aubin, St-Romain etc–now start at $40 and Meursault starts at $60.
Wine merchants like to call wines from the Maconnais ‘white Burgundy’ and talk about $35 bottles of wine from Macon as though the grapes were grown just a hop, skip and a jump from Chassagne.

When you say “nowadays” Is that post tariffs?

Mark,

That is a good question. I just looked up some on line prices.
Are people importing wine from France now?? Or were these wines brought in earlier…I don t know

My understanding of that SKU is that it is fruit from the Lafon holdings in Meursault and Puligny:

I guess this wine never made it to our region.

I saw a sell sheet for some of Alex Gambal’s 2016 wines. The wholesale price of the St- Romain Blanc was over $400…yikes!
