Riesling would kill with fare here but it’s a rare bird on lists. GV would slay too.
What I love is when the people new to wine come. Especially the music following.
Save the day for the Spätburgunderbowl! February 9th!
I brought a bunch of riesling to Mexico City last year and you are absolutely correct.
Are you hosting it in Bogota by any chance?
Ha! The only bottle of wine I had in Mexico City last week was a riesling
January 2027 I’m permanent here and could help you import to this market. 1.4M here and > 7700 restaurants & bars.
Thanks Todd for the call out.
For those in the OC and LA area, there are groups down here in which I help organize and participate. We would welcome meeting new people to them. Of note, in March I will be having our annual charity event to support Laura’s House. We’ll likely have over 100 different wines open and close to 100 people here, many who are part of this forum. Should you want to get started with meeting others, this is a great event to open that chapter for yourself. Information about the event, Falltacular, is/continues to be in the Offline forum. Go back out to the main WB index page and find that forum and click it to find the event.
I joined Wine Berserkers on day 1 when I was 23 and I’m 39 now. I think the lack of pretentiousness and fun culture is what makes it great. I’ve also come to enjoy Instagram for wine and find that a lot of my younger wine friends tend to be more active there. Most aren’t familiar with WB though FWIW…
It’s also worth noting that younger people like me tend to have young kids and busy work lives. Less posting/offline activity as a result.
It’s the Post so likely blown out of proportion for increased viewing but… Gen Z is drinking less alcohol than older Americans, data shows
No, for sure it’s definitely a huge part of it - the generation to which we are referring is drinking FAR less alcohol than prior (there are innumerable articles about it, not just The Post) so absolutely that’s a factor in it
Our Denver group has a largeish event several times per year, and people occasionally do smaller get togethers as well. A few of us are late 30s/early 40s. Once we all got together most of our communication transitioned to texting/facebook because its easier.
I think the main thing is to keep attracting new people, and one way to do that is if everyone polices their own tone of voice - it’s good to foster a welcoming spirit, and when disagreeing, do it with kindness, and avoiding the in-crowd sort of feel of walking into a bar where everyone is a regular and they stop and stare at you…
You finally met me and @Charlie_Carnes ”Meats” at an offline! And to think, it changed your life forever!
Yea! We’re kinda like that infection that just won’t go away!
We’re kinda like that infection that just won’t go away!
You mean TCA, Todd, Charlie and Alfert?
Where is that drumroll emoji again… ah yes, here it is,
it’s good to foster a welcoming spirit, and when disagreeing, do it with kindness, and avoiding the in-crowd sort of feel of walking into a bar where everyone is a regular and they stop and stare at you…
YESSSSS Jamie!! This!
Here is one from WSJ on bourbon.
I don’t really drink white wines much, but I do know that there are a few distributors that import German wines. But I wouldn’t say it is one of the top wines being drunk in SG. Most serious drinkers or collectors in Singapore buy wines they want out of auction houses or shops from London & Paris and ship them to SG. So it doesn’t matter much what’s available in the local market.
Cross posting here in case someone might not regularly check the Wine Events thread.
Anyone interested in gathering a group to taste? Let’s include as many Berserkers as possible with a goal of including some younger or newer members so let’s just say bring something you think others will find interesting. Q by Peter Chiang in Bethesda has a private room, doesn’t charge corkage (just 20% service for large groups), and the cuisine can be selected to match most fine wine surprisingly well. They have crushable Peking duck that pairs super well with all kinds of reds. Champagn…
This is a great opportunity to meet up IRL, enjoy the Berserker vibe, drink some fun wines, and eat some delicious food.
Cheers
Update on ads - I’ve greatly reduced the clutter on ads, removed inline and floating videos, so now they are all in-line which is typical for media sites and the like. I wasn’t able to easily allow for a one month no-ad experience without a bunch of custom programming, so that’s back burner for now.
The more I read here, the more I realize that we are, indeed, attracting younger members - very much in line with the ‘younger members’ wine/alcohol consumption rates, in fact.
Also, I think back to when I was a ‘younger member’ myself…sigh
For those looking for offline opportunities I put up two events in the event section.
Rieslingstudy after Rieslingfeier at Roberta’s Bushwick on Sunday (1/19) at noon
Spätburgunderbowl at Pizza Beddia in Philedelphia on Sunday (2/9)
They just both happen to be at Pizzerias this time.
