the wine that costs more to store til ready to drink than to buy
Come on Mike, we had the 2006 for $39 a few weeks back…
Anyone want 2005 for $39, drop me a line.
Maybe, do you have a professional tasting note for it?
a local store was blowing out 05’s for $29. Grabbed that shit uppppp. Drink in 2080
I haven’t had a DA shiraz past the 2002 vintage, do recent vintages compare favorably (stylistically) to 98-2002?
Damn, I bought a few of those last year for $46 and thought I had a good deal.
yeah it was a crazy sale, they blew through 30+ cases in 2 days.
i drank the 96, 97 & 98 recently and have since started to flog my dead arm
i just dont know if this wine will ever come into balance/ a nice place
and i love wine from Oz
Is it any good? I am so jaded by Aussies that I need an independent opinion (aside from Parker/Miller). Rimmerman at Garagiste is excellent at finding more restrained examples of Aussie syrah-- last night I had a 2004 Poonawatta Estate Shiraz Monties Block Eden Valley from Garagiste- and it was really excellent. Not rated by Parker, though the higher end bottlings from this estate are reviewed by them.

I wouldn’t say this is a “big syrupy ultra ripe” shiraz but it’s not necessarily restrained in the end.
When I took a sit at hour 2 I almost gagged at the amount of petroleum syrup there was in this wine, I wasn’t ready for it. But when i re-bottled it and brought it to Steve’s it changed into a whole different beast. A nice nose of small dark berries with some spice box waffling at the top. I was surprised by great amount of acidity on the palate with clean concentrated fruit of (limited) strawberries and blueberries with fresh cracked pepper sprinkled on top. Elegantly made with no overwhelming alcoholic presence and a long 30+ second finish of light tickling fruit and fine tannins. (93 pts.)

No Dan, the 2003 Jasper Hill Shiraz Georgia’s Paddock I bought from you for $39 each a few months back was a great deal indeed.
