Just wanted to get people’s opinion on when they think it is safe to ship between the two coasts. I have wine pending from Washington DC, Chicago and New York and was wondering when is a good time to pull the trigger and have them shipped to Norcal.
It looks like most of the country has highs in the 80s right now. It’s probably okay to ship now, but if you aren’t in a hurry and/or want to be more conservative, temperatures should drop nationally over the next few weeks. I’d say, barring some freak weather condition at the time, late October usually when it starts getting very safe.
Personally, I think wine is a lot hardier than some others do and I’m not that skittish about shipping, but I also have way too much wine and am in no hurry to get things, so I usually wait until November or something both to be extra careful and just to push off my overcrowded storage challenges.
I think its way too hot still, 80s in the midwest and it will hit close to 90 here this weekend in the central valley. Like Chris, I am in no rush, for coast to coast shipments I usually don’t start to schedule them until November at the earliest.
Thanks for all the replies, weather is indeed quite hot in the East coast but the Midwest is freezing now!! . There is this whole wall of below freezing temps between the East coast and CA.
