Sharing Wine in Restaurants

Here’s be best of a glass of wine with a server. Decent restaurant, but no really professional waiters, mostly younger, college types, but good at what they do. One evening, I had a your woman server who seemed interested in learning about wine. She hadn’t had ‘that’ experience yet. It just so happens I had brought a 2004/5 ish Saxum with us. It was, of course, drinking beautifully. I told her to pour herself a glass saying it was local(Central Coast). She took a sip and said…

“OH. MY. GOD.”

…with a stunned look on her face. Needless to say she was absolutely glowing the rest of the night.

I would think in the second instance, the person might have been disappointed by the incompetence of the server who was unable to open the bottle and then completely horrified that the server allowed another diner to open it. He might have looked at it as similar to the idea of someone from another table touching his food.
