Really well-written piece, had to wake pre-dawn to get to read it without my 5 y/o jumping all over me. What really jumps off the screen is how bright both are, I always really enjoy speaking with and learning from both.

Quite a nicely written article by Jon I thought. Captures very well the passion these two display for old vines.
I have, of course, followed Morgan’s Dad from the very start. Met him on a visit to Jow Swan’s in the early-mid-'70’s while he was topping barrels.
Then met him again a yr or so later at a wine shop PhilReich was managing down near the FerryBldg as he was preparing to start up Ravenswood
Vnyd w/ ReedFoster. So I was ready to pounce when that '76 vintage came out.
Trivia question: What were the two vnyd-designate Zins Joel released in '76??

A good article by Jon on two winemakers I have high respect for. I think it makes sense to recognize them as he did. The choices confirm what many have felt for a long time. Looking back at my archive it was in 2008 when I named MTP as a “Winemaker to Watch” after tasting his first vintage, followed by WMOTY in 2010. Tegan’s work at Turley was my Winery of the Year in 2013. Both are instrumental in raising awareness of the legacy of heritage vineyard sites through their individual companies, and collectively, with others at HVS. Well deserved.
