Sensational Champagne; Best priced Prestige Cuvée

  • 1996 Drappier Champagne Grande Sendrée - France, Champagne (8/4/2013)
Typical '96 density of fruit, gently acidic. Intense fine bead. I’ve read conflicting reports of the blend; all Pinot, or 55:45 Pinot:Chardonnay. I’d suspect the latter is accurate, as in addition to red fruit, there was a strong baked apple aroma I usually attribute to chard in the blend. Fantastic wine, drinking very well now. I wish I had more. (93 pts.)

Warren,

Hard to argue with your post title. This is an overlooked gem of a wine in almost all vintage and is stupid cheap for the quality. It is approximately 55% Pinot Noir/45% Chardonnay. The 96 Grande Sendree Rose is almost all Pinot Noir.
