Science geeks: vintage winemaking instrument ID request

Does anyone have any idea as to what this is used for? It’s labeled only, “Made in Italy for Budde & Westermann, NY, NY.” Cursory web searching shows that B&W were and/or are involved in winemaking supplies.

It looks like something for distillation, but that’s as far as I can go!

Any help appreciated!

Looks like an old ebulliometer - used for measuring of the alcohol content in wine, based on the difference in boiling points of water and alcohol.

The funny thing is that new ones still look the same. Fun to use in an interesting kind of way.
