truly eye-opening to receive yet another “please-take-my-Scarecrow-at-cost” offer again this AM. i took 3 bottles of the 2006 last week and have enjoyed what i have tasted from this vintage so far; i’m sure Scarecrow will be fun to drink in 4-5 years. today’s offer must be the 4th or 5th i have gotten and i guess that is real commentary on this economy and the secondary market.
In high end Cali, there are more collectors/flippers than drinkers. If you buy their 06, they can take their almost assuredly 99/100 pt 2007 for a profit/trophy.
will be interesting to see what folks can do a year from now in the high-end market. the 06 offer i took was contingent on me getting a bottle of 2007 Scarecrow @ cost. Quid Pro Quo.
I believe that the day of astronomical rising priced cult wines is nearing its end. I for one would not mind seeing a pull back in pricing of these things. Would I ever pay 2 beans for a Scarecrow,no, but that’s me.
I do find tons of joy living in the sub $80 range.

YMMV
not my 1st rodeo. two “friends” who offered me their 06 'Crow didn’t even respond when i said “sure i’ll take your 3-pack but i want one bottle of 2007 @ cost”, nice huh?
Well, it’s certainly fair. You are the one letting them keep their place in line, so why shouldn’t they give up one of the next vintage for you? Those who did not reply are looking for folks who won’t want an ‘07, but they may not find buyers if it’s not worth the buyers’ while.
Maybe I’m living on a different planet but what’s the story, Parker give the '07 a 101? [1974_eating_popcorn.gif]
And if he did brings up an interesting contrast in itself. What makes this 100 different than say the Schrader CCS 100?
Pre and post release scoring is what does…
Let these people die on the vine. Especially Scarecrow. Has there been a wine that is more about hype come along in the last few years? Plus they are the clowns who claim to be against flipping as its so evil as to make them threaten to dump people off their list. Then they go and raise their price ~20% a year. They are a perfect example of a winery feeding the way WAY over inflated hype machine that is Napa Cabernet and scraping big profits off of it.
Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning.
I personally don’t know if any wine is worth more than $100 – but if I was going to rank the best Cali Cabs of the past few years, Scarecrow would be VERY high on that list.
It just needed to be said and I volunteered. Small production wine from an over priced region gets a big Parker score. How many times have we seen that happen? People will tell you how great it is because…well how can you not? Until the next edition comes along…
I don’t think we are far off here. Where we differ – I think Scarecrow is really good. I drink an inordinate amount of Napa Cab (one of the perks and drawbacks to the job) and if one was worth the hype, this one is.
I wish I knew someone there. I don’t.
I wish I was on the mailing list. I’m not.
I wish I had a financial interest in Scarecrow. I don’t.
I agree. I’m not on the list, but I have friends who are. I’ve had the 03-05, IMO it ranks next to Screagle, Harlan, Hillside, Bryant, Araujo (insert your ‘cult’ choice here)…
