Came up in a thread on another board. Going forward, all Saxum wines will be line priced at $75 per bottle. Next stop $100+?
I adore their wines. Some of my best and most memorable drinking to date. But at these prices, I’ll be drinking a lot less of them. There is no disputing the quality and that they are worth the money. But, for me they are now a “drink on rare/special occasion wine”
I agree Mike Officer is class in a glass.
I popped an 04 Two Acres with friends recently and we all loved it
great to see a nice guy finishing first for a change.

I am sure other Syrah producers will be watching this development like a hawk. If he can mostly sell through, then it will be a signal to other Syrah makers who can generate Parker scores to follow suit.
price increase is justified. my only regret is the damn scores came out before i ordered so i got less than half my order filled… less juice to drink and too many friends who love this juice.
Crap, this is a rather drastic price increase. This is very disappointing. Indeed, the quality is there but but my budget isn’t. I guess I’ll have to find a replacement source in a winery that has yet to receive lofty scores. Saxum deserves all the success they get but they’re pricing me out. Grrrrr.
I’m finding myself jumping off the bandwagons of wineries who jack prices up.
Kistler, Aubert, and Keever come to mind.
Like Chris, some of us don’t have unlimited budgets (even though we’d love to).
Fortunately, there is a LOT of good juice out there to choose from.
Slightly different take here: Saxum makes great wine, but in a style that I am drawn to less often these days. The price increase will make it easier to drop Saxum in favor of other, less expensive wines that are more in line with what I want to drink regularly.
Torn on this, but I’m a capitalist through and through, so I don’t have a problem with it. However, capitalism cuts both ways - you can’t appeal to customers benevolent/altruistic side if you have a few bad vintages if you are going to maximize your profits when things are great. Higher prices means higher risk too.
If he keeps making great wine and if the ratings stay great, he won’t have any trouble filling his list - even if he keeps going up.
If anyone thinks there is something “wrong” with this price increase, ask yourself what you would do if your value suddenly went dramatically up at your company? Would you insist on the same pay even though you knew you could get 75% more? Again, though, when you take more money, you’re a lot juicier target to cut if your value doesn’t stay at that level.
Justin owns one of the world’s finest sites for Rhone-styled wine. He has a demonstrated track record. The price increase shouldn’t come as a surprise. Saxum is more than fairly priced at $75 IMO.
Carlisle, Villa Creek and Copain are three of my other RR go-tos. Mike, Cris and Wells all buy fruit from Justin. The next shoe to drop maybe higher prices across the board on James Berry grapes.
