Saxum, New York - Friday, November 7th - Includes 12 bottle JBV vertical from 2005 through 2017, missing only the 2006 (plus more!)

I have been reviewing the Saxum blends and there is less consistency than I thought so 2011 appears to fit in well. Here are the percentages of the >10 years vintages: It appears that the 2007, which was the WS WOTY, started a trend towards a higher Grenache percentage, with the 2011 being the highest, so it looks good. I will search tonight for what magnums I have because I would like to open one of them for a change.

2005 JAMES BERRY VINEYARD 71% Syrah, 20% Mourvèdre, 10% Grenache,
2006 JAMES BERRY VINEYARD 45% Syrah, 38% Grenache, 17% Mourvèdre
2007 JAMES BERRY VINEYARD 41% Grenache, 31% Mourvèdre, and 28% Syrah
2008 JAMES BERRY VINEYARD 52% Grenache, 31% Syrah, 17% Mourvèdre
2009 JAMES BERRY VINEYARD 57% Grenache, 31% Mourvèdre, 12% Syrah
2010 JAMES BERRY VINEYARD 52% Grenache, 26% Mourvedre, 22% Syrah
2011 JAMES BERRY VINEYARD 69% Grenache, 15% Mourvèdre, 13% Syrah, 2% Counoise, 1% Roussanne
2012 JAMES BERRY VINEYARD 43% Grenache, 29% Mourvèdre, 18% Syrah, 10% Counoise
2013 JAMES BERRY VINEYARD 45% Grenache, 29% Mourvèdre, 18% Syrah, 8% Counoise
2014 JAMES BERRY VINEYARD 42% Grenache, 24% Mourvèdre, 21% Syrah, 8% Counoise, 5%

As I mentioned, I can bring both 2010 and 2011 JBV. How about a 2017 The Hexe as well?

2017 The Hexe 58% Grenache, 27% Mataro, 11% Petite Sirah, 4% Tempranillo

Whatever floats your boat. No rules. I will search downstairs and decide on mine later today.

I cannot find any of my pre-2011 magnums. I must have finished them. I have found a 2011 and a 2012, but I want to go older, so I will post later.

I will bring the Saxum James Berry 2007.
Also plan on bringing the 2017 James Berry and 2017 James Berry White.

Hi @J_a_y_H_a_c_k thanks to a fellow Berserker I was able to source a 2012 Broken Stones and 2013 James Berry. Happy to bring either or both!

Sorry Jay. I can’t make it.

Next time.

I am firming this up with people and wine lists, so please post if you are interested.

One or both is fine. If only one - Will check with someone else to make sure he is not bringing the 2013 James Berry. If he is then the Broken Stones. We may be able to do a JBV and a Broken Stones vertical.

I seem to have a fair amount of Saxum. Mostly post 2011 vintages.
Let me know if something is needed if a vertical is planned.
Initially, I plan on bringing the 2007 James Berry, the 2017 Saxum White and 2017 James Berry.

Let me know, sourced the two for this dinner so happy to bring both!

Hi Jay. At minimum, I’m planning to bring ‘10 and ‘11 JBV.

I can also bring a ‘10 Broken Stones but out of the ‘11 to complete the vertical.

Looks like we will have a James Berry vertical, so I will focus on that, but we may also have a Broken Stones vertical. I will ceck my own collection and organize everything after a 3 pm zoom that I have.

Confirming that I’ll bring:

2010 JBV
2011 JBV
2010 Broken Stones

Hexe on standby

Hi all, thoughts on decanting? For reference, 2012 BS and 2013 JBV

tough to say. Four years ago, I said it needed a five hour decant. If you double decant an hour before you get to the restaurant, that should be enough because we have a very long vertical.

Understood, thank you!

Looking forward to this.
Won’t be able to decant in advance; best I can do is open in the A.M., taste to make sure the wine is proper, and recork.
I will bring:
2007 James Berry,
2017 James Berry White
and, to stretch the vertical,
2018 James Berry.

Excellent. We (listed as Rebecca above) will bring another JB White to make sure that we have a comparison, and enough whites for the apps and the pescatarians. If I can find it, I will go with the 2019.
