One of my favorite winemakers just received a great award in London:
Grand Master Medal for Stefan POTZINGER: Sauvignon Blanc Ried Pössnitzberg DAC 2024
Southern Styria has become home to some of the finest Sauvignon Blancs in recent years.
Out of over 100 international Sauvignon Blancs, almost half of them from New Zealand, the POTZINGER Sauvignon Blanc Ried Pössnitzberg Südsteiermark DAC 2024 emerged as the best wine of the entire tasting at the Drinks Business Global Sauvignon Masters in London.
The Pössnitzberg vineyard is one of the most renowned in Southern Styria. It is characterized by cool winds from the nearby Koralpe mountain range and a perfect terroir of highly calcareous opok and calcareous marl. Aged on the lees in 300-liter barrels for nine months.
I visited the winery a month ago and tasted the whole range, this one together with the SB Ried Sulz was clearly the best. Surprise: it´s only 21 € at the winery.
Just for what it´s worth.
