I thought this price was for a 375ml, but this is indeed for a full bottle. The next lowest price on WS Pro is around $48! You are paying split prices for a full bottle and in a great vintage, cant beat that!
At K&L; looks like they have just under 5 cases left, happy hunting!
I caught this after scanning through K&L’s monthly paper magazine/newsletter. I thought it was a typo at first but went online, saw it was for real and ordered up a 6er.
Good find, Tyler! K&L has actually had this available at this price for quite some time … it’s one I’ve been sleeping on, as their stock of this wine has not been moving, but due to the popularity of this thread I had to go buy a couple today before they were all gonzo.
I noticed that K&L has the 2007 Haut Charmes, Sauternes (375ml) for $14.99. Has anyone tried this? I am looking for a Suaternes that has a great QPR that I can drink during the week. If you have any other suggestions please let me know.
I looked at this a couple weeks ago. Was this really such a great deal? I’m not that familiar with Lafaurie Peyraguey and have never had it, but looking at cellartracker notes and professional reviews, it seems to be less regarded than the usual suspects.
Edit - I remember thinking I would have bought splits for $15, but 750ml of sauternes are tough for me.
I’ve been buying Lafaurie-Peyraguey for years. It is a classic Sauternes and extremely good in the better vintages. I always detect elements of honey and chocolate hiding among the ripe fruits. The wine is mentioned in “Brideshead Revisited” which may have helped put me onto it back when that was a popular BBC series on public television.
Recently I opened a bottle of the 2003 and it was so decadent and delicious I scoured around and found some more. I have not tried the 2005 but I imagine it is in the same ballpark.
Luis, I think that probably depends on what you are looking for. I have not actually bought any of the 2005, I bought a lot of various 2001 Sauternes and I am mostly sitting on those.
There are people who rave about the finesse and complexity of Sauternes that is 20 or more years old. I think the 2003 L-P is probably not the best choice for those people, and I think it may be just as well to drink the 03 young. For me it was a big splash of pure hedonistic pleasure, and not so much of a moment of contemplation.
Sorry to disappoint but I haven’t read any reviews of the 05 – I am hoping some of our Berserkers who got in on this wonderful deal are going to pop one and write notes.
