Saturday night wines

I had some very good wines Saturday night and a disappointment

Cedric Bouchard Roses de Jeanne Blanc de Noirs Les Ursules - really excellent wine, like always. This is some that I bought in December 2007, so it had an extra year of bottle age. I am not sure I could tell that, but it was still really good. Nice acidity to provide structure and excellent fruit.

Bonneau du Matray Corton Charlemagne 1999 - Tasted really good on the first sip, then went downhill. Not at premox sinility yet, but getting there.

Truchot 2003 Charmes Chambertin 2003 - Really tasted like a Truchot and not like a 2003. Had that uniquely expressive Truchot nose. Well balanced. Not as intense and long as a Charmes from Truchot in a better vintage, but still pretty good and pretty ready to drink.

Barthod CM Beaux Bruns 2001 - Barthods 2001s are just so impressive. I don’t know whether to let them be for a while or just drink them. I know that they will get better but they are so good right now. If you don’t like this, you don’t like Burgundy.

Karlsmuhle Kaisler Niechen 1990 Auslese - On Saturday night, pretty well balanced, and very pretty, but a bit too lean for dessert. On Sunday night when we finished the bottle, much richer tasting and really good. I don’t know if the wine improved or the dessert (a parfait of yogurt and fruit) was just too rich for the wine.

That’s a hell of a parfait! What did the color or the wine look like the first day?

Good notes on the Bouchard, that stuff is ripping good.

The Karlsmuhle seemed lighter the first day (like a fairly young auslese) and then a deeper gold the second night.
