Saturday Night Syrahs - 2006 Open, Ready & Full of Grace - Novy & Tensley

  • 2006 Novy Family Wines Syrah Garys’ Vineyard - USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Lucia Highlands (10/3/2009)
Popped, left open 2 hours, then consumed over the next 3. Smoky, earthy, black cherry & blood on the nose and palate, finish highlighted by copious amounts of cracked pepper. Extraordinary balance. Lovely wine with the bones to age wonderfully.
  • 2006 Tensley Syrah Colson Canyon Vineyard - USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Barbara County (10/3/2009)
Popped and poured, enjoyed with a meal of veal saltimbocca served with arborio rice and wild mushrooms. Mirror image of my first bottle of this, elegant, sharp, acidic, rich, midweight with powerful elegance.

Brian,

Thanks for the notes. The 07 Colson was my first Tensley experience and I really enjoyed it. Have some additional 07s (Colson, Thompson and Three Creek) coming from the winery, but will make a point to seek out and try some of the previous vintages. The '06 Colson sounds great.

Cheers, [cheers.gif]

Brian, thanks for the notes. I own both of these wines so your pespective in CT is always helpful for my drinking choices.

My 2 Tensley mags appear to be on the way, as my credit card took the hit this week–forgot it was October already. [truce.gif]

Steve,

Tensley always hits it for me. Just a pure joy type of wine. If you’re free on Saturday afternoons from 2-5, head over to Eli’s in the Del Mar Highlands shopping center. The tastings are usually good but the sidebar is always a treat!

Frank,

I appreciate that, thanks. Always happy to help a fellow Syrah junkie!

I think an OC trip is in order for me. It’s been too long.

Brian

And if you want to see what Joey try a more restrained style, try one of the syrahs from Carina Cellars. Great price point, and more my style. Parker doesn’t like them much.

Robin,

You’d like this Colson Canyon. Not a fruit bomb in any way, shape or form.
