Looks like there haven’t been any recent threads about Sao Paulo. I’m headed there tonight and will spend a week there. Only rez I’ve made so far is Kazuo.
Any tips/tricks?
I’m pretty swamped today, so I’ll see if I do a fuller write up later, but here’s a quick little list off the top of my head
Mani - arguably one of São Paulo’s most famous restaurant. Traditional Brazilian dishes with a modern twist
Casa do porco - Super famous, very amazing food. Often hard to get a reservation, but they also do walk ins
Tantan - one of my favourite cocktail bars in the city. Japanese inspired. Some quite creative drinks with Brazilian flavours
Tuju-fun tasting menu
Mocotó-serving up some classic sertanejo food
Aiô-new Taiwanese place. Great cocktails too
Tordesilhas-classic Brazilian food. Feijoada served on Saturdays
Shindo Lamen-great ramen in the Japanese neighbourhood of Liberdade. Sporadic opening schedule (chef basically opens whenever he wants to), so you have to check their IG for information https://www.instagram.com/brazilamen/
Pato Rei-great coffee
King of the Fork-idem
Not sure if you’re going for work or just for fun, but Rio is a quick flight away and also worth a visit
Brazil isn’t the biggest wine place out there, so you’re not gonna find a great selection of wines in most restaurants. That said, most restaurants offer corkage and there’s a few importers who sell some nice wines, albeit at quite steep prices. Cellar Vinhos and Clarets to name two I usually buy from
Also note that end/start of year loads restaurants are closed for collective staff holidays, so even if you can make a reservation online, I’d call up the restaurant ahead. Had this happen to a place a booked for dinner online on the 25th, only to show up and have it be closed
