My son is in Santa Rosa on business this week and may have some time for a visit or two.
Are there some tasting rooms in that area that he might visit? Nothing a too expensive.
I’ll offer him a visit to Fred Scherrer but some others would be nice.
Thanks.
We enjoyed Benovia, Iron Horse, Merry Edwards, Dutton-Golfield, and Inman quite a bit. Inman is at the higher price point, but the others have a range of pricing.
Inman was appt only - as was Benovia. The other 3 had tasting room hours.
PS - the best tasting he can do is at Russian River Brewing in downtown Santa Rosa…fantastic beer!
Ohhh, and Siduri is in Santa Rosa and has some great wines at a range of prices. They are appt only, but it would be worth it.
Adam Lee for Novy/Siduri, for sure.
While you are at Siduri/Novy, make an appointment for Zepaltas. Ryan is the assistant winemaker at Siduri and makes his own wines there.
Great advice. Be careful on a weekend though. Last time I went to RR Brewing it was 3:30pm on a Saturday afternoon. Table for two was “one to one and a half hours” and the bar was two deep. At 3:30? Amazing…
If he goes to Scherrer he should also make a stop at Red Car in Graton and, if he fancies Zinfandel, Wine Guerrilla in Forestville. Both tasting rooms are 10:30-5:00 with no appt necessary.
I’d be happy to set it up…just email me at adam@siduri.com.
Oh, and fwiw, I have heard rumors (well confirmed) that one of the guys who worked at Russian River Brewing (which I love) is starting his own brewery (and perhaps eatery) just around the corner from us near Bottle Barn. Not sure of timing, etc…but that is pretty exciting news as we drink much beer at the winery!

For a nightcap, he might try Cellars of Sonoma. They carry 10-12 tiny wineries and have some pretty good pinots and cabs as well as live music a few nights a week. Really nice staff as well.
Thanks for all the suggestions. He’s working now but will look at WB when he is finished.
And, special thanks for the beer suggestions. Nick went to SMU and beer was his major … I think!!!
Drinking a 2004 Novy Napa Syrah as I type this. Really nice at 9 yo.
Joseph Swan is good addition to the list above.
In case he needs more places to go: lol
In Santa Rosa - Sheldon, mostly Rhones and Pinot
South - Balletto, estate Chards and Pinots
North - Russian Hill, mostly Pinots and Syrah
West - Harvest Moon, specialize in Zin, but all kinds of other interesting wines
Russian River Brewery was backed up last weekend by the release of a new sour beer. Two block long line in the a.m. Usually the place is only slightly nuts.
This PM he is at Siduri … Adam was so nice to set him up. Then I think he will be going to RR brewery for dinner.
Even though he has been drinking my wine for 15 years, he has just started to explore his own parameters. This is the first winery, I think, he has visited so I am anxious to see his reaction. He has no trouble with my Pegau, Arcadian, Littori, R-M or Scherrer. Adam makes a nice range of wines that won’t break his bank.
That was the Beautification, sold out in a day. 248 cases
Email Phoebe at Ceritas and see if they will do a tasting appointment- I’ve had luck with that before.
David Coffaro in Dry Creek Valley.
Joseph Swan is only on weekends.
Loxton, over near Glen Ellen.
Forchini or Nalle in Dry Creek Valley, usually only on weekends, too.
Majored in beer? Very funny, dad.
Big thanks to Adam Lee who set me up with Jeff Schaeffer at Novy / Siduri. We had a great tasting and excited to have a source for Novy Syrah I haven’t been able to find in Dallas of late.
Hit Russian River Brewing tonight and drank several beers with names that all sounded like medieval tortures from the inquisition…but all very good.
