Wondering if anyone has recent experience in visiting the Rungis market? I’m looking for a tour organizer or guide who doesn’t charge thousands of Euro to do this.
You can email these people in english and tell them how many people, how long, lunch or not etc
Visite Privilège du Lundi allows you to buy products there, but remember that it’s whole sale, not retail, meaning you’d have to buy a whole proscuitto ham, for instance.
Don’t forget to wear warm clothing, lots of it is refrigerated.
It’s a unique market, nothing like that on this scale anywhere in the world. More than 570 acres of fine foods.
Go see Maison Bertolin and buy one of their Juniper Coppas, they are simply divine. From Val d’Aosta, Italy.
Lunch? A La Source, 4 Avenue de Bourgogne, best in the market. If you are looking for seafood, A La Marée, 2, place des Pêcheurs, where you’ll find the freshest seafood in Paris.
Best of luck.
Thank you so much! I was on this website but the page that I found seemed to indicate that the tours are currently only for food professionals and students.
Outstanding Claude, thanks. M1a_U & I are (unfortunately) looking only at a Tuesday, Weds or Thursday. (Would LOVE to do some shopping on a Monday; maybe another time). Can you share some more details? Did you arrive @ 4am @ Rungis to meet the guide; or meet earlier & leave from Paris, e.g., @ 2:30am (as some of the prior tours have done)? Also, I had heard the lunch option was with the workers (which of course would be excellent) - but it sounds like you can choose your own spot/there are options like you point out above? Any details/info you can provide are much appreciated. (And feel free to PM either one of us). Thanks again!
I drove there with my wife at 8 or 9am, but that was about 14 years ago, and I think the regulations were not as strict as now. I can’t remember what I said or did but at the time there was a way to finagle your way in.
No guide, no reservation, nothing. My wife and I just walked in and had a good time. It’s big, you can easily get lost!
Unfortunately, I don’t have any experience with Visit Rungis so I can’t comment on these tours.
Hi Claud (& anyone else w/ knowledge),
Yes, post-Covid Rungis looks like it has really changed, & Mia is correct it is only pros & students, and there no longer are any independent tours, save only Rungis giving you one of their guides & buses, essentially for minimum 10 or so people.
That said, I spoke with various friends here, and we are IN! We’re going in commando style (kind of like you), but with a pass to all markets. Very excited! Definitely hitting 1/ the Cathedral of seafood/maree, as well as 2/ produits latiers, 3/ gastronomie, 4/ volaille, 5/ fruits et legumes & maybe 6/ boucherie.
I’ve noted your eating suggestions above - apparently La Maree is still the Bomb! But if you have further knowledge/tips re where to eat & or must-sees or must-dos, it would be very much appreciated. (Same for any one on WB who has great tips for Rungis - thanks in advance & very much appreciated.)
We are going in @ 4am, supposedly the best hour.
BTW, apparently the way it works now is anyone can buy, as long as you have the official entry pass (otherwise 400E fine if you’re caught.).
Thanks again for your input/knowledge.
Theo
Bumpity-bump. We’re in on Friday. Anyone? Merci en avance.
