Order in while I still have the chance. Thanks for the reminder, Roy. One of a few cabs in Napa I will continue to buy on release. 2017 earlier this year was exceptional!
Retired last month..
Order inâŚno reason to get into the âhave more wine than can drink in my lifeâ statement!
Youngest daughter starting doctorate studies, new car, moving expenses, yada yada yada..
Life is good!
I just got an offer for the first time. Any input on where these wines land stylistically in Napa terms?
Sold out.
Hey Branson, my own summary isâŚ
Less ripe than Melka, Benoit or TRB. Much more ripe than Ketan. A little more ripe than Mowe and Togni. About as ripe as Graeme MacDonaldâs wines. I like just enough acid to hold it together but not more than that. I dislike âcrunchyâ fruit flavors. Lean to black fruit more than red and want secondary aromas like olive and lead pencil.
I aim stylistically about halfway between Napa in an average ripeness year and Bordeaux in a warm one, in terms of structure. I extract a lot of color and tannin and they are built to age but can be approached with a few hours decanted if you can handle the young tannin. My 2010, 2011 and 2012 are all in their prime at ages 14-16, so they will go a long ways. If I could describe my perfect creation it would be Pauillac in a great, warm year. Hope this helps!
This description of winemaker styles is great. It makes me wonder if itâs possible to create this type of mapping for the major Napa winemakers or wineries. For instance, mapping how winemakers all compare on ripeness on one dimension vs structure on another. Iâm not sure how youâd go about doing that, but it could be a really helpful exercise to help people understand if they think theyâd like a winemakers style or not.
Thanks for the input Roy! Seems like a style I would like. Looks like I missed on the 2024âs but if the 2025âs are available next go around I may hop in. Itâs my sonâs birth year so Iâll probably be on the hunt for more 2025âs!
Looks like I missed out on the 24s as well.
A bit cash strapped after a vacation but look forward to a 25 allocation.
Also missed out. Congrats on selling out. Would love to try your cab franc at some point too.
