Occasion is 25th anniversary of first date. So it would be nice if in addition to great food it had a romantic vibe, not too loud, good service, and of course either a good list or gracious corkage.
I’ve been almost nowhere. I’ve been to Perbacco, Boulevard, Zuni, Frances, and uh… um… really can’t come up with it… some nice-ish italian joint on a corner a block or so away and across the street from A-16 (have not been to A-16).
I know I can search for a ton of SF rec’s threads, but I thought my particulars would help focus the WB power on a few choices. Make wife happy. Thx.
La Folie. Get the seared Foie Gras in peach consomme (on the tasting menu). Drink Champagne with it. Trust me.
Anybody else’s rec’s are going to be somewhat discounted, as you might well imagine. I’m inclined to do as the lady says. The thread is 30 seconds old though, so by all means have at it.
I would add maybe Ame in the St Regis
Or Quince
La Folie is a good call too
Here’s two more:
Acquarello
Fleur de Lys
Those are all good options. Another option: we have been loving Spruce a lot lately. Great wine list, quiet and very upscale. Sort of a standout compared to other SF restaurants. Honestly though, a great option would be to do Fleur de Lys and then after dinner walk down to Mason street and pick up the cable car to the bay. Take it to the very end and then scurry into Buenavista for Irish coffees. When you are done walk along the bay out towards the pier. There are two cable cars that head out towards the fishermans wharf area on Mason street; you want to pick up the Hyde Street line. The other line will drop you off about 5 blocks from Buenavista.Try and get the standing only spots on the outside of the cars. Hang on to the poles and have a blast. It’s something both of you will not forget.
We’ve had great dinners at Acquarello twice. Very romantic & quiet. Great service. If you like Barolo, they have a fantastic list, though it is a bit on the spendy side. Ame is another one that I would put in the romantic category. Great food & service.
Gene - for romantic, post dinner they could head over to about Market and 7th and haggle with the meth heads over stolen bikes. Then take a nice romantic “roll” around SF. Down to the water…
That sounds awesome! I really need to get back to SF for a visit… it’s been too long. I’ll have to remember this, it sounds incredibly romantic. Fleur de Lys is the ultimate romantic restaurant.
I 2nd Acquarello and La Folie - both romantic.
Acquerello immediately came to mind. Have not been to La Folie in a while but it would also meet your criteria.
