Riverain: Discussing the wines, winemaker, owners, and anything else of interest

What was the original release price, if you remember? I’ve never bought the reserve.

2019 Riverain Reserve was $225 a bottle when i bought last year.

Yes, 2019 was $225, and 2018 was $210

I already have a mixed case (3/6/3) of these wines otherwise I’d consider it.

Got an email they only have 10 of the vertical packs left. Too rich for my blood, but glad they are moving through them - losing a vintage is brutal and they’re a class operation.

These are reserve wines. How do prices of the reserve bottles compare in price to normal bottles?

Somewhere I think Steve mentioned they lost everything. Cabernet at Tench they didn’t even pick. I think they picked both SB and PN but it wasn’t going to work so they dumped it. (not even bulking out the juice)

That’s a really common, and financially devastating, theme for 2020.

But that walnut case is so pretty

Sold out. Good to see lots of buyers. I still search for bottles of Syrah out in the wild.

Come to Socal and I’ll share a bottle. I still have the 2011, a favorite all-time syrah.

I still have 1 2013 and 2 2014s. I’m usually in SoCal once a year for work. Don’t know when I’ll be there this year.

We’ll be waiting… LOL

I will bring the Syrah!

In 2020, Cab did not get picked. Silver Eagle Pinot got picked, made it about three weeks and then down the drain. SB was really good that year, but alas, only 120 cases.

Did I miss an email? I see an allocation for Silver Eagle Pinot.

Received the email on April 12th…same offering 12 and 2. April 12th through 21st, with 3 bottle minimum. Been contemplating it.

Here’s the email

Greetings from Springtime Rutherford:

We do hope all of you and your families are safe and well. It seems like it has been raining/snowing for five straight months in California. We are finally enjoying some sunshine and are grateful for a much needed water replenishment.

We are excited to share our long awaited release of our 2021 Silver Eagle Pinot Noir.

We are extremely pleased with the quality of our 2021 Silver Eagle Pinot Noir. We share this vineyard with our esteemed winemaker, Thomas Rivers Brown, who, seemingly year after year, crafts beautiful, silky, fragrant Pinot Noir from this beautifully farmed vineyard. The moderate, even weather in 2021, along with the cool Occidental site, allowed for perfect hang time. The clone here is primarily 828, along with some Calera, which, with 25% whole cluster, makes for a perfumed and unique expression of this vineyard. The 2018 and 2019 are evolving slowly and with the balance here we expect this will age very nicely.

There is a 3 bottle minimum for all orders. We also have a few Pinot Noir magnums, which we especially like for aging.

Our release will be open for nine days from April 12 to April 21st, 2023. All wines (weather permitting) will be shipped ASAP.

If you have any questions or comments, always feel free to email me at steve@riverainvineyards.com.

Thanks for your support from the Riverain Team.

Open a '16 Cab (regular) with A5 Wagyu the other night - such an outstanding wine, great pairing, and the wine disappeared awfully fast!

Outstanding tasting with Dean at Riverrain

Got to try a number of the wines, including reserve and the elusive Syrah. Dean was a fantastic host and it was the kind of personal experience that is sorely lacking at many wineries.

Highly recommended if you are in Napa!
