So sad. I remember him for his knowledge and enthusiasm. A sad day. I will find some Riesling to open in his honor.
Sad news. Never met him but thoroughly enjoyed his TNs and admired his German Riesling expertise, enthusiasm and intensity, especially about Van Volxem. RIP.
I’ve known John for well over 25 years. First met him on the Mosel where we participated in a grand Riesling tasting. He was a fan of not just Riesling but many wines including Tokay, Sherry, Port, and Madeira. He was not in great health the past few years and will be sorely missed.
Never met him in person, being half a world away, but he was clearly a gentleman and a scholar.
