Over the 3 days, the 2015 Lindes de Remelluri ‘San Vicente’ [Rioja] drinks very well, but best from the first glass, simply popped and poured. As GregT notes, these are contracted grapes from a nearby area that now get bottled up on their own, with labeling to note that. This is kind of new/unusual for the region, since they are not hyper about villages/vineyards the way some French AOC are. But there is also no ‘crianza’ or other Riojanes gradations on this bottling, which I’m assuming is because they are not complying with those strictures (and fees) rather than this being a weak bulk blend, since it actually tastes great. Not a huge production, but in my area, not seen widely, and generally only at specialist vendors. I found it smooth, not tannic, with a sweet balsalmic glaze character, then a dark cherry fruit character. It’s nothing I can explain, but I don’t think it will age, and over 3 days, it really was best on the first day. This is very good Rioja for those who like the modern style and I’d slot this 13.5% abv (low, no?) into the A- zone. The last glass had a bit of sediment.
