Rieslingfier is Back - Jan 2025

These events are like a marathon. I never focus on the food. I ate pizza and pasta before arriving. And Kingston wine ordered Shakeshack burgers and fries post dinner!

What a fantastic event! A few stream of consciousness take aways:

  1. Met some fellow fun Seattle folks! Need to get together with some closer to home (or u know. At home. Vs 4000 miles away)

  2. The event is super well run and just amazing group of helpful and generous somms with their time volunteering! The wine service is excellent given the scale of it all

  3. Finally met the venerable @Robert_Dentice finally in person even tho I feel like I’ve known him for years. So much passion comes out of the guy on the topic of Riesling.

  4. So… many… btls. Tried some amazing stuff. Most memorable probably the 83 Egon eisewein and the 75 Egon TBA. But frankly there’s an embarrassment of riches. Magnums of gmax laying around.

  5. The pre dinners with Jura and burg nights were fun. Noreetuh and 63 Clinton are outstanding restaurants. Wow!

Look forward to next time!

This was really cool! Acid, spice, fluid, ageless at a mere 88 years old!

Stephan sold me my first bottle of Riesling, a 2007 Señor, pretty awesome to have Florian Lauer pour me a glass of 93.

I brought this one. It was terrific. Pic is from my kitchen, as I didn’t take one of it at the event!

That is a very smart strategy! Food portions were incredibly small for all that wine. I had some pizza myself on the way home…

Obviously an incredible amount of great riesling. I didn’t taste anything older than the 60s, but so much good stuff.

However, funnily-enough, one wine that stood out - perhaps for being red - was the 2022 Meyer-Näkel Spätburgunder, I think it was the Sonnenberg. Such elegance and vibrancy, and they had not been on my radar before. Now they are!

Thank to all who came out to Roberta’s it was a really great showing. The food was excellent. And an incredible array of wines! I only wish we would have started at 11!

Just got off the phone with my friend mark who attended last night and couldn’t get over how well-run this event is (hats of to Stephen) and how passionate, generous and knowledgeable everyone was.

As a first time Rieslingfeier attendee ( grand tasting and Roberta’s lunch), I was blown away by how large and generous the Riesling community is. Organizing something like this must be a labor or love - thanks a lot especially to Stefan and Robert for all they do to make this a great time. Next time, I’ve got to grab some gala dinner tickets in time!

P.S.: if someone knows who paid for the food at the middle table at Roberta’s, I’d like to Venmo them some money to cover the pizza . I had to leave before close to catch a flight.

So great to meet you Siddharth! Thanks for coming to NYC!

Some highlights from The More Rieslingstudy after Rieslingfeier party! I can indeed confirm 71 Auction TBA and Roberta’s Bee Sting pizza is indeed a life altering experience!

my god that sounds amazing!
the perfect pairing!!!

Stephen Bitterolf of Vom Boden picked up the primary tab for the pizza party at Roberta’s at least for the middle table but may the whole thing. He instructed me to buy more Riesling from Vom Boden :slightly_smiling_face:

A belated Thank You to everyone for their notes and impressions of Rieslingfeier 2025.

I attended Rieslingfeier from 2017-2019, and had an amazing time every year, but had too much going on this past several months to consider any travel this past winter. I hope to return in 2026, and will be sure to bring some interesting wines as in the past

Sadly Rieslingfeier is now a biannual event; the next one will be in 2027. Regardless, I’m super excited for it!

Thanks for letting me know. 2027 then!

In the meantime, I’ll look into other wine event/tastings for winter 2026.

Not sure where you are based but I do Rieslingevents throughout the year. Next one is 7/12 in Burgundy and then after that 8/3 in NYC!

I live in the Boston area, but can go to NYC or locations through New England with a little lead time. Unfortunately, I am busy on 8/3.
