Literally counting down the days for it!!!
Flying out in 2 weeks!
There are a good number of Seattle folks going. Hope to meet you all!
I am going to have to do a rieslingstudy there!
You should make a swing up the coast after one of your LA visits!!
I’m looking forward to the dinner but don’t quite have the stamina to do the tastings earlier in the day as well. More power to you all. See you in the evening!
I hear you. I am going but it is more of a social event and will try to taste a few things that I don’t know and look for things under-the-table!
Any advice on getting through that grand tasting? we have the 10am slot - so first thing in the morning…
I’ve never been to this one but past ‘grand tastings’ are usually a mobbbb scene of people
No different than the other large tastings except it is probably harder to taste lots of young rieslings, even when splitting.
I usually go with a strategy which is either to hit a few producers I don’t know as well or to try to get the read on the vintage.
And try to hit the most in demand producers first - my guess is Keller, Julian Haart and Egon Müller will be the most in demand.
My own odd strategy is going to be to hit Alzinger, FX Pichler and Hirtzberger first since I am a bit out of touch with Austria. Keep in mind I have tasted with many of the German producers in the last 6 months.
Tip: Don’t sleep on Lukas Hammelmann, he is a rising star (full disclosure we sell them through source | material)
Really looking forward to this. Still working through what to bring. Have two bottles already locked and loaded. Working through a few more possibilities.
Curious for folks traveling in - will you be staying in a town before or after?
Would be cool to get an offline going and spend some time/corks with out of state WBers.
I’ll be in town from Thursday afternoon until I fly out Monday. Would love to meet up with some other folks over the weekend outside of the event. I’m staying near Nolita.
If anyone needs recommendations for anything just let me know. I fly back from SF on the redeye Thursday night and have events non stop Friday through Tuesday so I will not be able to meet up.
Thai and Riesling dinner in the days leading up? I’ll be in the 11am tasting.
Regards,
Brian
Can’t recommend a visit to Noreetuh more highly if you want to see the best German wine program in the U.S.
I am slammed with work the following week. I land back in NY on the redeye Friday then events through Tuesday or I would help organize something. It is the worst week of the year for me timing wise.
There are still a few spots open for the last slot at the walk around tasting. This is really a great way to taste wines from 15 of the top Austrian and German winemakers.
I have a ticket for the 12-1 pm slot at the tasting that I can’t use. PM me if you’re interested.
I’m flying back the night before.
How about the days after?
Alas, I saw the event too late so was only able to secure tickets for the general tasting. I’ll be coming in from Austin,TX
A long shot, but in case someone has an extra ticket they can’t use or a last minute cancellation - I’d be happy to buy your VIP ticket to get more tasting time with the growers?
Also, are people planning to do other side events after the tasting/outside of the gala dinner? I would love to hang out with other Riesling fans and kill a few bottles over the afternoon or dinner.
Sid
There are quite a few events going on throughout the week. Check out vom Boden’s and rieslingfeier’s IG accounts as well as the usual German and Austrian importers for more information, but here’s a few of them that I’m aware of. I’ll be going to a few of them
Lukas Hammelmann is pouring some wine and spinning vinyl at Compagnie tomorrow
Flatiron has a seminar with Schloss Lesser, Alzinger, and Loewen on Thursday
Vom Boden is organising a Hammelmann BYOB at Oma Grassa on Thursday
Noz 17 is doing a Pichler diner Thursday
Eun Hee (who won Vine Pair’s Somm of the Year award last year) is organising an event at Phoenix Palace with Schloss Lesser, Alzinger, and Loewen on Friday
Lauer and Emrich-Schonleber dinner next Tuesday at Oiji Mi
