So tonight I opened up a bottle of 2007 Haart Goldtröpfchen Riesling Spätlese. And it’s pretty dang delicious…hint of petrol on the nose and an abundance of tropical fruits on the palate. Could use just a bit more acidity to compliment the medium-plus body though, imho.
Anyway, I’m having trouble locating the producer on CT. I do find “2007 Reinhold Haart Piesporter Goldtröpfchen Riesling Spätlese” on CT, which has a remarkably similar label with regards to the crests, fonts and colors. However, my bottle doesn’t say “Reinhold” before Haart and “Piesporter” doesn’t appear in small font above Goldtröpfchen like the 2007 Reinhold Haart label on CT.
I’m assuming both bottles are related but perhaps slightly different, would appreciate it if a riesling expert could explain the differences and what’s going on here with the labels.
(would also appreciate some riesling recommendations that would be similar in style to this one)
According to an offer from Wine Exchange in September of 2014 this was a recent release of the '07 directly from Haart’s cellars. The wines are stored there without labels, and the recent release bears Haart’s redesigned label.
So back to the wine, I’m still really digging it – any wine recs/producers from Piesporter I should consider? Other parts of GE? I really like the fuller bodied, tropical fruit style without too much sweetness that I’m finding in this one.
Love acid, problem is I’m not sure where to begin with Germany, by far the one major region I’ve most overlooked. And if 2012s are a place to start then that’s good to know. Would love a few recs for producers or specific wines worth seeking out.
If you’ve got the budget for it, WHWC is having a fantastic sale right now. Pick up some of the 2012 Donnhoff Spatlesen (both the Kirschheck and Brucke) to start – I reloaded a case of them myself. Granted, they’re from Nahe, not Mosel, but who cares?
