A current and ex-SF Giant enter the wine business. From the SJ Merc:
Rich Aurilia was excited because he received a prototype for his wine label that he’s making in conjunction with Dave Roberts, among other partners.
The label is “Red Stitch” and it’s a high-end 2007 Napa Cabernet Sauvignon. They made 150 cases and they’ve already received orders from two restaurants — Gary Danko and Boulevard. Now that’s a heck of a way to start.
Roberts and Aurilia coming out with a new, high-end Napa cab in the 3rd quarter of 09, is about as timely as Brian Sabean signing these two over-the-hill vets to Giant contracts over the past couple of years.
Bob Wood - do not get smug. I believe both Roberts and Aurilia are former Madres.
Mike, the timing might actually be good with the Giants making a run for the Wild Card. And to have 2 top SF restaurants carry them, I guarantee some die-hard fans will order them off the list.
Would I but it? No. Do I buy Joe Montana’s wine? No. But someone will.
I might share with you Rolando Herrera from Mi Sueno will be making the wine for Red Stitch. I’ve had correspondence from Dave Roberts that they are interested in working with us (since I’m a Giants fan) and Mi Sueno told him we should have the wine 'cause we’re special
Update : The Red Stitch Cab will be released Spring 2010 . It will be somewhere in the $75-$80ish range . Approx. 125 -150 cs I hear there was a spot during the Giants game Sunday (yesterday) that they did a plug for it, the web site went crazy shortly thereafter, their mailing list is filling up quick.
