Fixing a big pot of blackeyed peas and smoked pork jowl in the crock pot.

Happy new year!!!

I’d say stay Southern. Go for the Pork.
Glad to see another pea-eater.
I wonder how widespread that custom is? Our family interpreted it that we actually had to eat black eyed peas for breakfast on Jan 1. Sometimes that means having a kitchen that smells a little like it is full of wet dogs…
Not that I dislike B.E.P. In fact I wonder sometimes why it generally turns out that I =ONLY= have them on Jan 1. We had them at least a couple of times in 2009 because we went to a Soul Food restaurant (Delta’s in New Brunswick) and they were unavoidable…
You doing collards too?
We do Mustard greens. I have always liked them better not sure why. I use a recipe simmilar to this one.

Wew do bep about once a month. Cornbread from scratch and usually some country ham to go with it.
MMMM it is good to be a southern boy!!!
We do a black eyed peas/southern menu for New Years Day as well…Traci is a “southerner” so it works perfectly/
