I had an 2009 Alpine Chardonnay a month ago and it was on the downward slope also. Last year, the same wine, stored the same was stellar. Can’t figure it?

As an ancient saying goes: “There are no great wines, only great bottles of wine.” Especially if we’re talking about dry white wines at 10+ years.

I’ve only gone over to a few friends homes to share wine since March- One of them was the 09 Alpine chard. But, drinking a 2008 alpine Pinot tonight- spectacular!

Opened our last bottle of Rhys 2009 Chardonnay Alpine. It was absolutely stunning. Oak fully integrated. Great minerality. Wow. Turns out my batting average for this wine/vintage was pretty darn good after all!
