Retailer Check: Vint Marketplace (Washington, D.C.)

Lots of stuff 20% below others. $56 for Jacquesson 746, for example. $70 elsewhere.

i’d love to hear from someone that knows they have the inventory vs just placing the order when the order arrives which is what wine-cellarage and a bunch of other places are doing. i don’t much care either way, but their site verbiage strongly connotes they own these already…

perhaps i’ve missed it, but i don’t see any differentiation on the site between ā€œmany of our winesā€ vs all others.

ā€œPlease note that many of our wines are stored in Europe and are classified as either pre-arrival or future arrival and are not available for immediate delivery.ā€

Prices are cheaper but you have to pay 10% sales tax plus shipping. I’ve considered placing some orders and just driving to DC and picking up, but the cost savings are just not big enough for me to really care.

Good timing, I took a chance about a week ago on some prearrival bottles

Someone posted that they knew the owner?

Following seems like everything is in there

From an email I got back from them:

Also, as a potential savings, if you select ā€œsend to storageā€ as your shipping option, we can complete the sale without charging you sales tax. This means the wines will touch down in one of our warehouses before being shipped and won’t add noticeable time to your delivery time.

I’ve never used Vint but I’d be cautious about anyone offering below market prices consistently across their wines.

Some merchants in the UK throw a very small mark up % on top of what they can buy Livex for example, and you have to worry about a business that will work that hard to make maybe net £15 profit

I’m still waiting for my Premier Cru Romanee Conti so I think I’ll wait on buying here also.

It also depends on what you’re ordering. I ordered a six pack of $50 wine, so not much downside exposure for me.

You fish in much deeper waters than I do, so I can understand your caution.

Romanee Conti is a Grand Cru, Doctor. One of the better ones, actually!

I think he’s referring to the store, not the designation.

Like a few others in this thread, I also have an order in at Vint. I was sceptical at first but found the following reassuring:

  • Before I ordered I called and spoke with someone there who was knowledgeable and helpful. He offered the option of having my order transferred for free to their new Oregon warehouse, which results in no sales tax.
  • I’ve seen similarly low prices on some of their items from other retailers that I have done business with in the past and trust.
  • The reason for their low pricing makes sense (sales outlet for their investment wines).
  • I just received an email a few days ago letting me know my order had left Europe.

None of this is proof that everything is legit and above board, but I felt good enough about them to place an order.

How long in between placing the order and your order leaving Europe?

Almost exactly two months. According to the email I received, my order is expected to arrive at their warehouse in a couple weeks.

adding to what Martin opined, few here remember Rare or Premier Cru. I’m willing to wait for a bit of a track record. Especially since I really need nothing.

They are low price on 13 Dom, 13 Cristal rosƩ, 14 Vilmart CdC . . . many other wines.
