If you really want some of the local ‘flavah’ I would recommend Santarpio’s Pizza. There’s nothing quite like it, certainly a unique experience for someone raised on NY style pizza.

The one in Eastie is just off the highway as you pop out of the Callahan Tunnel on the airport side, and I’m sure you can access it from the hotel.
You need to get some pizzas and the lamb/sausage combo with extra peppers. It’s a couple notches above ‘dive’ in decor but certainly family friendly.

I figured they would have had you at ‘Carafe of Taylor Burgundy.’ 
The pizza is great, I think they are 12 or 14" handmade pies and the oven is either coal or wood fired. I can count 4 generations of my family that have gone there.
The website also reflects the new Peabody location so I don’t know if they’ve changed how they do things since I ate there last.
next door to the pizza place is this place. any info. doesn’t have to be right by the hotel but doesn’t hurt

99.9% of the MA restaurants are no BYOB and Anthony’s is one of them.

Pier 4 might be too pricey and a shell of its former self but it would be worth it just for the popovers and the view. Ask for/demand a table by the water and extra popovers! Another 4 Gen family place. We used to wait hours for a table in the 70’s. My cousin and I would run all over. On the weekends that place would be entirely full of people, probably 600-800pp at the prime time between 5-9pm. Check out all the oldie star pics on the walls. Get the girls a couple of Shirley Temples, which was the first thing I drank there besides water. Scan the wine list, I doubt you’ll find anything like the 1970 Forts de Latour I picked on my 23rd birthday for $65. That whole part of town has changed quite a bit from how I remember it.

Brent - you’d be surprised what they still have in the cellar there. Actually getting the wine out - well, that’s another story! As an aside, the whole Seaport area has changed drastically since you left town. A bunch of new retaurants (Menton is there, but very high end - didn’t get the impression that’s what Jordan was looking for).
I would take kids to any of the summer shack locations (jasper white) - Feels like a clam shack with significantly better food and the decor, scene at the cambridge location is perfect for kids -http://www.summershackrestaurant.com/
If you’re talking about the location in Fresh Ponds, that would be extremely out of the way from the airport. There is a location downtown near the Pru, however. That said, I’ve never had a good meal at any Summer Shack. It is most definitely kid appropriate, however.
Jordan - along those lines, the Legal Seafood in Park Square has a great list and is very kid appropriate. There is supposed to be a new Legal going up in the Seaport, but I’m not sure its open yet.
Durgin Park is always fun and a very different experience from most cities’ restauraunts
