My interest in wine began with Napa Cabernet Sauvignon. It expanded from there to include many varieties and regions. About 10 years ago my focus strongly shifted to Piedmont and Champagne. A few years ago, interest in Napa Cabernet was rekindled and continues presently. Conversely, my interest in southern Rhones, Chateauneuf du Pape in particular has vanished. What regions have you abandoned and to where has your interest returned?
I’ve shifted in and out of my preferences of specific regions over time. I’d say that for me it’s all about having an awareness of how to keep a balance in my cellar. So right now, I’m not buying much from California, Australia, S. America, and other regions that often create wines of a certain style. However, I still want those wines a few times a year…so I try to keep about a case of different wines in that style. I focus mostly on Piedmont, Tuscany, Champagne, Germany, Burgundy, and N. Rhone right now.
