This is how wine should be shipped

Dear Steve,

We are writing to let you know the winery is planning a temperature-controlled (refrigerated) delivery of your order. Delivery will be completed by-appointment using Vine Vault, a specialized wine-only delivery service that provides refrigerated, door-to-door transport.

Vine Vault will contact you using customerservice@VineVault.com. Please “white list” this address to prevent their emails from being sorted into your spam folder.

Your wine will be transported via refrigerated truck from our Napa warehouse to one of Vine Vault’s regional storage facilities. Then, a Vine Vault representative will contact you to propose a delivery appointment. Please feel free to work with Vine Vault to arrive at date and time of mutual convenience. The day of your appointment, a Vine Vault driver will arrive in a temperature-controlled van and personally bring your wine to the location of your choosing.

To summarize:

  • Vine Vault is a wine storage and transportation company.
  • Orders are packed in sturdy cardboard cases, without need for Styrofoam insulation, and collected (along with other Vine Vault orders) via a wine-specific refrigerated truck (55°F)
  • The refrigerated truck transports wine orders to a regional Vine Vault storage location.
  • Once received, it’s then put into their temperature controlled (55°F) storage facility.
  • Vine Vault will contact you to arrange a date and time of mutual convenience for delivery to your home, office, or storage location.
  • On the day of delivery, your wine is loaded into a refrigerated van (55°F) and delivered to you.
  • For the entire journey – door to door – the wine is kept at 55 degrees.

But the relocation costs for most of us would be too much.

No thank you. Not willing to pay for this, whether it’s an add-on or through higher pricing.

I think it depends on where in the US you’re located. Shipping windows are getting smaller in many areas, not bigger, between major carries with shipping troubles and extreme weather. Shipping is already expensive in the US, but I’d certainly be open to this, if the price were right. Other wineries use similar services (Goodfellow comes to mind) and the shipping isn’t any more expensive.

Typically the temperature controlled shipping is to the hub, maybe local terminal. This is a step up with temperature controlled delivery on the last mile. I doubt VV is driving a 500 mile round trip.

Seven Stones uses this same service and IIRC, it not expensive but it may be baked into the wine cost somehow.

Upon delivery they offered to carry it the cellar, but I declined.
