Still thinking I will try this. A bottle would likely last me forever given I don’t drink like you guys.

A couple of questions about red vs white:

It’s advertised as a fix for red wine after-effects. Does it work for white wine as well?

It’s supposed to reduce quercetin, which they say is present in red wine. If that’s the case, if white and red wine in similar quantities affect me similarly, will reducing quercetin in red wine have any effect? Not really looking for an answer - it’s all empirical/experiential/anecdotal at this point- just wondering.

So does anyone notice a difference between young and aged wines in terms of headache level?

I gave ā€œThe Wine Fixā€ a shot… only one data point so far but it worked well. The ZBiotics product also works, but this seems to be around 1/3rd the cost per ā€œdoseā€. I don’t intend to use these products as a crutch to overdrink on a regular basis… but when you just have to finish that special bottle when out at dinner or it goes to waste, these are really useful.

I haven’t. This also seems to work well with spirits as well. From what I can tell it’s effective for both red wine headaches and general hangover prevention.

This is wise, at least for European wines which don’t really seem to make any effort to be accurate about what is on the label.

Thanks for sharing this Doug. I like this line, ā€œThe next step could be to give human ā€œred wine headacheā€ subjects two red wines that are low and high in quercetin, respectively, and ask whether the high-quercetin wine induces more headaches.ā€ <-----I can assure you, I have run this test on myself hundreds of times. lol.

Are you measuring your wines for quercetin glucuronide?

Welcome. Recently I had a few glasses of red produced on the Canary Islands. With the amount of sun there, I wonder if the quercetin in this wine was higher than what I normally drink. The headache was quite noticeable. I wish I had an at-home way to measure quercetin glucuronide @Ben_M_a_n_d_l_e_r

Figured I’d cross-post this since I spent a lot of time putting this together.

My typical preparation for wine dinners:

One liter water with electrolytes before dinner starts, I prefer Waterboy weekend recovery.

Preload with Zbiotics and The wine fix and Toast gummies as directed.

At the end of the night, one more liter of water with more waterboy electrolytes.

I’m usually in the gym at 8-9 am the next morning and feel great even after huge wine dinners like the Roumier one in Atlanta with 31 bottles / 12 ppl.

A lot of my friends have started using this regimen to great effect. The ingredients in the supplements do seem like they have a reasonably good evidence base, as well. Maybe if I get enough data points I can do an observational study.

But how much is just the water and electrolytes?

It all helps; I was out of zbiotics a few months ago and definitely noticed it the next day.

People can do whatever they want; I’m just describing what works for me.
