Some brief notes of some nice wines over the past couple of weeks; All drank well. The Giacosa was clearly the best wine. the Donnhoff, Charvin and Stoneyridge were the most mature.
2003 Donnhoff Oberhauser Leistenberg Kabinett: Delicious bright, fresh and alive, sl.low acidity only indicator of 2003. tropical fruits. Lovely right now, not for longer keeping
2001 Ch. Leoville Barton: Refined bdx nose and palate, beautiful balance and freshness. Well judged and just starting to show some development. Another 5+ years
2004 Jamet Cote Rotie: High acidity, bright red fruits and background notes of olives and smokiness. Still too young, 5-10 years probably
2001 Charvin CNDP: Fully mature for me, Garrigue, meatiness, red fruits, really good acidity. Elegant and poised, drinking wonderfully right now
2011 H Lamy St Aubin En Remilly: Rocky stony and limey. Intense and youthful, needs time to settle down, painfully young right now, lots of potential
2006 Yann Chave Crozes Hermitage La Rouvre: Mature, middle weight, clean dark fruits and a some smoked meats and earth. Very nice for what it is
2001 B Giacosa Barbaresco Asili: I know thiss is too young, but boy it was singing. Florals galore on the nose and long intense palate and finish. Really very good, lots more to go.
2005 Craggy Range Le Sol Syrah: A big name NZ syrah. Lots of fruit and oak and extraction that somehow held together nicely by the framing acidity. I liked this more than I expected.
1999 Stoneyridge Larose: Paulliac look a like, nose of cigar box and cassis and refined middle weight palate andd long finish. At peak. Very impressive
