Recent white burgundy vintage experiences

Calvin,

Did you try any 23s?

I ended up having one bottle over the holidays (have a huge backlog to go through, lol). Tasted 23 Rodolphe Demougeot Monthelie ‘La Combe Danay’, it was really good. I don’t have any formal TNs but I enjoyed it.

Great to hear. I recently picked up a 5-pack of the 2017 Pillot Chassagne-Montrachet Baudines.

Overall, I continue to have great showings from the 2017s writ large.

Excellent power and acidity. Rather chiseled. Showing very young. Promising. His wines are legit.

Took a 2014 Boillot CC to a Burgundy fundraiser BYO dinner for the AHA recently. It showed very well, albeit young. The official host, Daniel Johannes, poured some of the 2002 Lafon Meursault Clos de la Barre he brought, which was in great shape and showing well.

2019 Leflaive Folatieres was truly sensational on Thursday night. Dense and bright and textured and very long. WOTN among some fun wines, including the red label you see on its right.

19 Niellon chevalier was incredible last night, a little weird upon opening but it finally came together.

Crazy good Coche Meursault from 2013
A little shy to begin with, but simply wow 1 hour after opening and increased temperature. My best Meursault in a long time. Opulent, liquid rock infused lemon. Many layers, just keep coming. Wowsa. My best bourgogne blanc from 2013 ever. Of the list a Troisgros.

Nice! Seems Coche did great in 2013 - the 1er Caillerets 2013 is one of my best whites ever (had a few years ago in Burgundy)

2016 Paul Pillot Les Caillerets

Recently drank this bottle with my wife on my birthday. Rich, nutty, powerful and broad. Acidity is fully integrated and the wine caresses your palate. Soft and plush. A glorious wine for the vintage, but drinking at peak. This did not show oxidation, but based on how developed this wine was, and the relatively low acid, I would not say it has upside from here. This drank like it was a decade older than recent experiences with 17 and 19 Paul Pillot.

Nice wine! Thanks for the note. My experience too has been that there is little upside for 2016s, and I will continue to drink them ahead of 2013s-2015s.

My first '23 from bottle. Good tension and lively acids. Maybe a tad light in middle. I liked it, though it’s searing and blatantly young. Good material.

Had '16 Dauvissat La Forest and '17 Raveneau MdT on Thursday night. The Dauvissat had a pronounced honey character (botrytis?) and was richer than the Raveneau. It was a stunning wine though, if not a totally typical Chablis. The Raveneau was textbook Chablis with deep minerality and salinity. It was all elegance rather than power. I preferred the Dauvissat although the group was split.

This was just ok. Doesn’t have the most layered depth or coiling I find in excellent Chardonnay. Was better filled out on day 2.

Interesting! I had that Forets just the other day too. Noticed some fruit sweetness but botrytis didn’t occur to me at all. A very nice wine and quite ready imho

Does any body have any experience on the whites of Au Pied Du Mont Chauve? Eyeing up some of the 2020 CM 1eres but I can’t find much info on them. Thanks.
