2007 Kamen Estate Cabernet Sauvignon - USA, California, Sonoma County (10/29/2011)
Man this is a producer that always surprises me. I need to stop being surprised and start buying more and more of this. This was served against the Veraison, )5 Phelps and 07 O’Shaugnessey and was easily the best of the night for me. It was so integrated. Fruit and and smoke followed by some cassis and tobacco. It really was great. I thought this was a home run. (94 pts.) -
2005 Joseph Phelps Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley - USA, California, Napa Valley (10/29/2011)
Great classic Napa Cab style. A bit of alcohol at first but that blew off after about an hour decant. This was really integrated the fruit, some vanilla, and oak. Just really nice. (91 pts.) -
2005 Veraison Synchrony Stagecoach Vineyard - USA, California, Napa Valley (10/29/2011)
I dont know if this needed a bunch more air as one of the people I was with suggested, but i think it has just not aged right or we had a bad bottle. It had a great nose and tasted just like an old bordeaux. All of the flavors were muted. It had a bunch going on but everything was so faded. You could tell it was a nice wine at one point (85 pts.) -
2005 Rudius Syrah - USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley (10/18/2011)
This was great again some of the same meatiness that was present last time along with some brambly-ness? Some black pepper and dark red fruit. There is a subtle taste of ash that falls in after the fruit and tobacco flavors that i did not taste last time. i know that sounds unpleasant but it really is quite nice. This good from right when it was opened to 4 hours later. This is better than the last bottle i had. (92 pts.)
