Got news of this from a friend a week or so ago. It’s a site I used to ride by and salivate over. Good aspect, micro-climate, relationship with the fog, vistas – in short, everything you need. I think you could get 35 acres in there, but that’s just me. All in all, should be a very exciting project, a place I know will grow very pretty pinot, and a nice counter point to the Rhys vineyards up on the ridge. I look forward to watching the project develop – the place is a bit ratty and overgrown right now but has huge potential. Fun.
Thanks Ian. I guess word travels fast down south!
I am really excited about the site as well (it has all the attributes we look for) especially because it will allow us to show a southern SC Mtn complement to our 5 northern SC Mtn sites. Also, it is only 1:10 from Alpine!
That said, I think 35 acres would be tough! Maybe 25…
You’d know better than I – I was only climbing fences and sneaking around a couple years ago. If you have any soil pits open that I can come look at, please let me know. I’m working on becoming a total dirt nerd and getting to know my local area.
Thanks for the update Kevin. I had convinced myself you were buying from Manchester Ridge (elevation, Mendo, pinot & chardonnay). Shows what I know. Looking forward to trying it!
