But is this how it would express if it still needed time? I’d think it might show some promise, maybe on the nose, but then just be really tannic, shut down, etc. this stuff tastes like Meomi pinot noir. It doesn’t taste like a bad bottle, corked, etc. just tastes like crappy wine…
I have never had this wine so not sure how it should be tasting, but that isn’t really the typical jadot been experience as far as my experience with the wines has been (although the only two I’ve had have been celebration and ursules).
I don’t do a lot of Jadot either and tried a 2012 Celebration in 2020 and noted at least 5 years before a revisit. Those Beaune tannins and earthy character can take a while to tame. Des Croix is my outlier in Beaune in regards to finesse and elegance.
Another good person to listen and learn from (I certainly have learned a lot from him)
The idea that good burgundies always show at least some of their quality whenever they are opened is absolutely flat-out wrong, for good or ill. Sometimes they do exactly what you describe. Because Beaune has a slightly lightweight reputation and isn’t usually very expensive there can be a subconscious expectation of accessibility that leads to disappointment; not that Jadot Boucherottes will ever set the world on fire but it should eventually be a nice wine.
If I opened any 2022 now it would be more about hope than expectation.
In my experience Jadot reds are rather structured and often quite tannic when young. Their Beaunes are often teh most accessible wines in their line up as Beaune’s often display petits fruits rouges and can be prettier. That said I have had some Beane Couchereaux that are delicious as young wines, but some that are quite four square. Beaune Ursules definitely needs more time as is more structured than teh Couchereaux.
God bless you, Tom.
Jadot has never shown very consistently for me, I’m never sure what I’m going to get (especially trying random cuvees). I credit a couple of their wines for opening my eyes to the wonders of Burgundy but when I sought out different vintages of those same wines they tasted completely differently. I’d even say that up to half of the Jadot I’ve tasted could’ve been flawed (like your experience), 40% was so-so and maybe the top 10% was good. Worth noting that I’ve mostly had 1er crus from them and no GCs.
In response to Tom, I agree that most 22’s are probably not worth opening right now but if a wine “tastes like Meiomi” I’d be very surprised if it ever comes around…
This doesn’t sound flawed to me, though it is of course possible.
The point is that its current state(I am unfamiliar with Meiomi) tells us nothing whatsoever about its future, something as counterintuitve and difficult to accept as it is incontrovertible.
I have to say, I tried my first sip after the bottle was opened for 45 minutes and I though I opened the bottle prematurely for my tastes… and then, almost exactly at the 2 hour mark, the wine totally transformed and was really great.
(2018 Mugneret-Gibourg Bourgogne for those who dont want to scroll up)
What I mean is that the wine tastes so different from expectations that it effectively could’ve been flawed, even if it isn’t.
That’s certainly an uncommon opinion!
Lifted and bright black cherry, cranberry fruit aromas. Vibrant dark fruit palate with a little oak on back palate. Quite an intense Beaune with crunchy and bright fruits.
Relatively dense and serious.
One of the most disappointing wines I ever had was a 2017 Jadot Boucherottes in 2023. I think it was sound but was just not good, very thin; it had wended its way through to a local discount seller, and I think that can often tell you something about wine quality. How many entities passed on a wine before it ended up before you in a shop - indeed “the local grocery store”?
I’d not have any expectation of a 2022 being something to open right now though
I’m not sure about Jadot, but a lot of 22s are drinking beautifully in a early way right now.
Not about red burgundy. It is the simple truth.
Opened a 2019 Soyard domaine de la cras bourgogne last night…their non monopole. My first Soyard red and thought this was excellent and operating well above its level. Almost 1er quality (at least a lesser 1er).
Good now but I would let these sit longer…maybe 2-3 years to develop. A bigger, darker red and black fruit wine. Can’t necessarily place a village that reminds me of this. Certainly Pinot though.
It sounds like the vineyard is RIGHT next to Dijon, I would guess the most similar wines might be Marsannay.
Is there a difference between a Clos Vougeot Musigny and just Clos Vougeot. I saw the Vougeot Musigny at a store down in S Florida while I’m here for the winter.
It’s just a plot of Clos Vougeot that some of the Gros family puts on their label; I believe its Musigni and is reasonably close to Musigny.

A few datapoints from the past couple weeks:
2009 Gouges Les St Georges - Another good 09. Still young, but plush compared to old school Gouges. Big but with beautiful, pure fruit. Definitely on the darker end of the spectrum. Long.
2014 Clos de Tart - Still closed but I’m optimistic. Needs another 5 years and probably more.
2015 Faiveley Gevrey 1er Combe aux Moines - These 2015s are, perhaps surprisingly, starting to drink. This has beautiful red and dark fruits with fine structure. Muscular yet very well composed, with just emerging signs of age. Long runway ahead. A bit of the 05 grandeur without the hard-as-nails shut-down.
2018 Arnoux-Lachaux NSG - Comes off as more A-L than it does NSG or 2018. Ripe but pure and very attractive. The bold fruit is kept in check by the fine structure. Not overblown at all.
2021 Gouges Porrets - Freshness of 21 and darkness of Gouges is a good marriage. I often like this wine and this is a silly value. Drinking well at the moment.
2022 Mugneret-Gibourg Vosne Romanee - Polished and vibrant as always, though more shy than I would have expected. Didn’t give quite as positive an impression as the 21 of this wine has, though this was on NYE so my impression is a bit muddled. Generally I’ve been a fan of 2022s.
