14.5% alcohol. Just drinking so beautifully. Light red color. Pretty nose of red and black cherry, flowers, and a hint of spice. In the mouth, caresses the palate with excellent texture that brings you plenty of cherry fruit, good complexity from the earth and spice, solid acidity, and a strong finish. A- -

14.1% alcohol. Black cherry color. Youthful but pretty and balanced. Attractive nose of black cherry, blackberry, rich earth, and a touch of spice. In the mouth, plush and balanced while retaining a linear focus. Excellent purity of fruit with solid concentration, along with plenty of earthy complexity. Bright acidity. Long finish that shows just a touch of oak that helps smooth it out. Delicious wine that is rich yet elegant. A- -
2004 WesMar Pinot Noir Russian River Valley - USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley (9/26/2009)
14.1% alcohol. An aromatic knockout, as is the WesMar MO. Cherry color. Soaring bouquet of black cherry, red cherry, baking spice, a touch of flowers, and a bit of black tea. You could sit and swirl this wine all day, any day – hot, cold, sunny, gloomy. It’s going to make life good just to put your nose in the glass of a wine like this. In the mouth, lively and still youthful. Juicy black cherry is bolstered by baking spice, earth, and minerals. Strong acidity. A long finish that brings a red cherry edge to the fruit. Delicious and some positive years ahead of it. A- -

14.0% alcohol. Aromatic, plush, and pretty from the get-go. Black cherry color. Lovely bouquet of black cherry, blackberry, earth, and spice. In the mouth, a terrific balance between plush mouth feel and linear structure. Lush on the palate, with loads of black cherry and blackberry fruit that gain focus from the minerality and earth. Bright acidity. Long finish that shows a bit of oak. This is beautiful. A- -

14.3% alcohol. This is a nice everyday drinker that provides good value. Dark cherry color. On the richer, riper side of the Santa Lucia Highlands. Blackberry and earth on the nose, with a touch of oak that blew off after a few minutes. In the mouth, round texture with pleasing blackberry fruit, a hint of black cherry, good acidity, and a solid finish. B+ -
2003 J. Rochioli Pinot Noir Estate Russian River Valley - USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley (9/11/2009)
14.2% alcohol. Initially a touch of funk on the nose. This blew off with about 30 minutes of air. Lovely cherry color, with no hints of age or even lightening at the rim of the glass. Terrific aromatics, with pure black cherry, minerals, strong baking spice, and a sort of dusty earth note. This is the personification of Westside Road Pinot Noir. In the mouth, sumptuous yet elegant and linear, with a focused and juicy streak of black cherry fruit. Spice and earth notes lead to bright acidity, and the finish is tremendous, betraying just the faintest touch of lingering oak. A-/A -

13.5% alcohol. You wouldn’t think this is a $30 wine. Black cherry color. Gorgeous, complex nose of black cherry, earth, flowers, minerals, and spice. In the mouth, concentrated, balanced, pure, and powerful. The fruit isn’t the sole focus. It is a central player in a cacophany of flavors. Impressive concentration. Amazingly balanced and pure. Strong acidity. A long finish. This is excellent Pinot at a daily drinking price. A- -
2007 Siduri Pinot Noir Willamette Valley - USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley (9/7/2009)
14.1% alcohol. Light cherry color. Terrifically bright nose that betrayed the refreshing, elegant style of this wine. Black cherry, blackberry, light earth, and a hint of minerals. In the mouth, lively yet elegant. It has brilliant life behind it, emphasizing zingy fruit all the way. Swirls across the palate beautifully with a great kick of acidity. Solid finish. A-
