Don’t post many notes anymore, but a few from last weekend up in CT that got my attention.
-
1997 Joseph Drouhin Musigny - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Musigny Grand Cru (7/2/2014)
Lively red color. Underbrush and tea, beef, and soy notes on the nose. Beautiful nose. Loaded with dense, juicy fruit that is buried beneath some formidable structure. It packs some serious energy on the palate, you can taste the wine 30 seconds later. It may be more ready at this age than a typical vintage, but still needs a good bit of slumber imo. -
1996 Louis Jadot Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Ursules Domaine des Héritiers Louis Jadot - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru (7/2/2014)
Dark red color. Smells game, wild, earthy. Still rather tight. Red fruit and the high-toned '96 acid is forefront. Needs time to soften a bit, but good material here that is just starting to show. -
2005 Remoissenet Père et Fils Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Referts - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru (7/2/2014)
Gold color. Sherried, nutty, and oxidized.
FU, White Burgundy! -
2010 Vincent Dauvissat (René & Vincent) Chablis 1er Cru La Forest - France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru (6/28/2014)
Terrific saline, oyster shell, citrus notes. Tropical fruit. Still somewhat tight. Palate shows lemon and spice notes up front buffered by a really terrific, edgy acidity that spanks the mouth. So good in 2010.
