Real Men Drink Pink!

Real men aren’t ashamed to suck down some pink wine. I’m secure enough in my tremendous masculinity to pound some, right freakin’ now.

  • 2007 Dehlinger Pinot Noir Rosé - USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley (4/30/2009)
Vibrant nose of spring water (lots of minerality) and red grapefruit. The palate is very silky - I was expecting something acidic and crisp. The acidity is all on the finish and the back end - the palate feels a bit flabby. I’m getting some buttery components too, so it seems like perhaps some malolactic? Nice strawberries on the palate, but also a lot of bitterness. Not what I expected, and I’m a bit disappointed.

We gots to hook you up with some Provencal rosé!

Todd, since you quote Gary Pisoni in your sig line have you ever had his Lucy. 06 and 07 i thought were both fantastic and i think i still might have a couple of bottles of the 07 if your interested.

I had one bottle of the '07 here and it was vinegar. So disappointing…

Had this one a couple of weeks ago. Beckmen also does a nice Grenache Rose.

  • 2007 Linne Calodo “Pale Flowers” - USA, California, Central Coast, Paso Robles (4/19/2009)
Nice rose to hold off the 90 degree heat of the weekend. Nice bright color, crisp acid and a nice finish of fruit on the palate. (88 pts.)

Larry Schafer has a nice dry crisp rose he’s just releasing if you sign up for his wine club. Speaking of which… time to sign up for his wine club!

Todd, I swear that if we ever meet I will serve you pink mixed with Pepsi.

Todd, if you ever get to Nice or Cannes, you will learn to admire pink, especially with the bouillabaisse. It is also very quenching here in the extreme heat of summer. [foilhat.gif]

Oh, we shall meet, some day, and you will quiver in fear at my presence. You will serve me whatever I tell you to serve me.

I have NO problem admiring pink wines - I can even wear pink shirts! I would, however, like to see South Philly Jack drink some pink wine and eat bouillabaisse…

Road trip… [gheyfight.gif]

FABuloussss!

The Milan to Cannes to Tuscany back to Milan road trip is my all time fav Toddles. I have done it so many times that can and have done it drunk.

Golfing with buddies: $75
Ramming the golf cart up against the port-a-potty when you’re buddy is taking a leak: free
Pulling out an ice cold Rose on the 17th hole from the bottom of the beer cooler: Priceless

Doesn’t get any better than that, amigos.

Unfortunately for you the day we meet you will understand I am your doom, your antechrist, your ultimate downfall because I am immune to your awesomesauce [1974_eating_popcorn.gif]

Couldn’t agree more!

Two of my perennial favorites are Chateau de Pampelonne and Chateau Pradeaux.

I just recently had a rose from Ventoux called Domaine de Fenouillet that was excellent and cheap ($12).

We just had some Pradeaux sitting on the patio of the LaQuinta waiting for Flannery Fest to begin. It was quite good. The fruit was nice, but I felt like it needed a touch more acid. I honestly don’t remember the vintage, but maybe someone else will remember

It if was an older vintage it would have lost some zing.

As far as roses go, the Pradeaux is definitely fleshier/richer than most, but in no way flabby.

The other two are more traditional and I think you’d enjoy them.

I love Rose. We just had Lynmar’s 2008 Pinot Noir Rose which was terrific.

Said this in Melissa’s thread but I have love the last 2 or 3 vintages of Chateau de Puligny Montrachets Pinot Noir Rose. I think 07 is the current release. In fact, the 05 was a steal at $13 and I probably went through 6 bottles. Just tremendous. When the 06 came out, it came out at about $17 due to the dollar dropping against Euro…bought less but just as good as the 05. The 07 is out about $17-18. Haven’t had it yet but will probably pick a couple up.

We’ve got a couple others on tap to check out…

When if starts getting flippin’ warm enough around here, I’ll lay in some '08s. Rose is just one of those things where I don’t even consider opening one unless it’s 85+ degrees. Last year, K&L had a Rose tasting on a Friday evening and Beltramo’s had one the next afternoon with only one wine in common. Definitely my idea of a good time.

I have one bottle of '07 Edmunds St. John Bone-Jolly Gamay Rose left in the cellar. Hell, if it gets to be 75, I might just have to open it.

Even though it’s not technically a Rose, Bugey-Cerdon completely rocks in hot weather. As one fellow asked on another wine board, does it come in growlers or kegs? I can see myself sucking down a whole wine-in-a-box of Bugey. At 4% alc, it would be soooo easy to do. Tetra-packs anyone? [drinkers.gif]
