The Latour was the way to go…
That’s probably the sickest lineup posted on the forum, beating out our very own baller LMD~!
Peter Cargasacchi would not have interest in this lineup - those are all ‘dead’ wines!!
Really nice notes.
I am surprised at the 82 la Chapelle.
Sounds great out of magnum.
Pretty hard to beat an older LaLa.
Cheers,
Don
What a fantastic lineup! I maybe a bordeaux guy but those older Rhones are something special and I’d give my left nut to drink a 83 La La and 82 La Chappelle from a mag.
I had the 55 Lafite for my 50th birthday and it was killer, in fact it needed air.
Oh, BTW, did the Harlan have any brett or VA?
Makes perfect sense. Well done all around.
Ummmm…HELLO!!!
Guess next time I’ll have to find a way to make the shindig.
I loved reading these notes. Fantastic.

The Las from the 80s are really singing right now. Crazy good and then some. I’m glad you got to have one and it showed all it could. I would guess that hours later it would have been even better if you can imagine. I am always always impressed as to how long these live in the glass, and not just live, but thrive!! I always drink them too fast. Some of my best wine experiences are with the LAs.
82 La Chapelle is now drinking well as you note. FINALLY. I’ve not had it from 1.5L ever (lucky you!) but from 750mL 3-06 it was very nice with a note to myself to try again in 5-7 years. I’ll probably wait 10. I cannot imagine when a 1.5L might be ready… on my deathbed? (the '59 out of 750mL is still not ready FWIW).
The 83 which I had back in October is doing a bit better than the 82 for current drinking although my notes say try again in 2015. Also out of 750mL.
A killer dinner to be sure. Thanks for sharing.
Great night Phillip, thanks for coming, one of many more tastings to come. Have to agree on the 83 Guigal, it was a stunner and is drinking right on the money. There was a dribble of 86 Mouton left when I came back this morning and it was just sublime, needs decanting for a good 4-6 hrs in future. The La Chapelle was superb and the Giacosa at dinner was also drinking well…to much to all take in, all wines were drinking and not a bad one out of the line up, we got lucky. Kudos to Sharon at York Street too, she is at the top of her game, food was spot on.
