Agreed. The Celestins is a powerful wine, very unlike Rayas.

Both Henri Bonneau and Clos des Brusquières have different terroirs than Rayas. The same goes for Vieux Télégraphe.

Henri Bonneau and Vieux Télégraphe both have vineyards on the stony La Crau plateau to the east. Les Brusquières is a lieu-dit located on the stony plateau in the northern part of the appellation, near Mont-Redon.

Hope you have a chance to try one. I have very limited experience with Rayas, so take it with a grain of salt, but the Rotem & Mounir is the single greatest bottle of CDP I have tasted. The Arioso comes from Pignan as well so the soil is about as similar as it gets. I am also not the biggest CDP drinker; I often find them too ripe and lacking any varietal character. Cheers

Re the 1998 at Bastide. You, sir, are wrong. It was $140 and remains one of the most ethereal wine experiences of my life. Plus the burger and the company didn’t suck.

I’ve hardly imbibed on Rayas, having only had 1 real Rayas (1998) courtesy of a generous offline co-attendee and on my own with 2001 Pignan and a very impressive 1990 Fonsallette. I was hoping I’d read at least a comment here on how Henri Bonneau’s Celestins, 90% Granache and which I’ve been able to foray into a few more times, would compare.

Bonneau is/was very different, with very long barrel aging causing aged umami notes with strong structure … unique at least until 2011/12 ..
