Ranking the 1860s decade for red Burgs

thought I would drag Mssr. Audouze back over here. He isn’t here enough.

All the same now- cats pee

Alan wins the internet today.

nice

The vintage ending in 3 was a hot vintage, the one ending in 4 sucked, the one ending in 7 was for early drinking, the one ending in 1 was initially dismissed and then heralded…well you get the pattern…

Many 3L Grand Cru’s still showing life. Much better luck with the 6L’s stored at Bern’s and other cold cellars.

Lincoln thought '65 was promising, but someone found out where Wrath stored his grapes (mostly villages) …and…crushed them.

1863 was the worst - by a country mile.

The vintage failed disastrously in both G.C. Vosne Romanee “Vicksburg” and G. C. Gevrey Chambertin “Gettysburg” [especially Lieu-dit “Pickett’s Charge”] and it was all downhill after that.

I can’t say. My family’s collection of CdN Grands Crus was ruined by poor storage conditions in their stetl.

If people want to drink and pass comment on these wines before they are fully mature, then that is their right, even though I personally can’t see any pleasure in drinking such unready wines.

think 1863 was great 172x294 [cheers.gif]

I guess there probably are as many alive reds from the 1860s as there are alive whites from the late 1990s, so this is a legitimate question.

Anyone see any good prices on the 1860s at Acker? I head they just got a bunch of them for their next auction.

I would have thought that it would have been pretty cool in Poland. I guess too much smoke from Cossacks burning their houses.

Oooohh - how cool that would that have been. I have had one wine from this decade, an 1869 Chassagne Montrachet Blanc from the old LaBaume Aine firm. It faded within an hour, but the color was still vibrant and the wine was really rich and creamy for that first hour before it started turning brown before our eyes.

Not tasted any yet …still waiting for my delivery from Premier Cru.
