Quickbooks: Like, dislikes?

Being a very small operation I’m not ready to invest in a winery oriented software program to track all things winery.

I seem to find myself going back to pulling the trigger on QuickBooks which I am totally unfamiliar with. I currently use the intuit card reader for POS and I’m using intuit for ecommerce on my website.

My question for those who use it, does it do a good job for not only the purposes of tracking sales (obviously) and tax reporting, but what about use for inventory tracking and also cost/expenses of production? It would be nice if it can be used to document all my expenses/costs to determine a per bottle cost each vintage.

Any input would be helpful.

Thanks,
Rob

Quickbooks is the most popular accounting software around. It is effective in cost and revenue tracking. I would recommend getting your accountant or somebody knowledgeable to set it up so you can drill down and track your costs, rather than seeing all the numbers lumped together.

Once your data is in there, it has canned reports that will help with your tax prep. We just give our accountant a copy of the QB file at tax time.

I like that it provides all kinds of real time financial information and helps my accountant file my taxes on time. I dislike having to enter all the data.

I’m a user and fan of Quickbooks also, but it still requires you to have basic accounting understanding. I don’t use it for inventory, but I did prototype it, and it worked pretty nice.
I’ve used a handful of bigger, larger, more complex accounting/inventory systems, and for small wineries, I cannot think of a better tool.

I assume you are on a windows system. qucikbooks for macs sucks.u

I am using the online version. Seems fine but I havn’t used an alternative.

Have used extensively quickbooks pro and quickbooks POS. There is no easier/cheaper option for a small winery. Getting it set up right in the beginning will save lots of time and money later on.

Thanks for all your input. Quickbooks it is. I will take the advice and get together with my accountant to help get me set up correctly.
