Quick TNs - '00 Boillot Perrieres, '95 BdM CC, '97 Bouchard CC, '03 Fourrier Moines

Several quick impressions mostly from memory-

'95 Bonneau du Martray Corton Charlemagne-
Premoxed, sherried and old. Decanted to see if air helped. It didn’t.

'97 Bouchard Corton Charlemagne-
This was surprisingly good. I didn’t expect much from the vintage and was amazed that this was still fresh. Not great, but still an excellent, ripe and very drinkable CC.

'00 Boillot Meursault Perrieres-
This was also excellent and just as it should be. Great fresh, ripe fruit and plenty of precision. Still, from a pristine bottle I expected even more. Excellent.

'03 Fourrier Gevrey Chambertin Combe Aux Moines-
I haven’t opened an '03 Red in a long time and this one was very interesting. At first, there were a few whiffs of prune and some VA lift, but with air this became very attractive (in a ripe way). The nose is very complex with spicy, ripe fruit and soaring mineral complexity. This is rich and ripe on the palate but not heavy. I like the rich spicy character and find no lack of balance. This is not a tight, red fruited Burg (a minority of Grand Crus fit that stereotype anyway!), but it is quite pure, rich, spicy and complex glass of wine that I enjoyed quite a bit.

Have you decanted oxidized whites and had them help previously???

It’s never helped with premoxed bottles, but old White Burgs can really transform with air. In some cases they show some oxidative characteristics that clean up entirely. With premox, they just head downhill with air…

Thanks, for a second I was confused. I thought I threw away a lot of pre-moxed wine prematurely!

Good to read about the 97 Bouchard Corton Charlemagne Kevin. Think Bouchard makes a great CC, the best recent example 05, and another surprise, similar to your 97, a 96! Was not sure what to expect but turned out to be very nice . . .

I’ve had this wine many times…mostly to the same experience as you…sucks.
