2004 Rivers-Marie Pinot Noir Summa Vineyard - USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast (1/30/2010)
Taken to a restaurant, popped and poured. Ahhhh, the orange zest on the nose. So distinct - love it. Initially, the wine tasted more of grenache with a noted touch of tobacco and darker cherry fruit and really nice acidity carrying on the back end. I let it sit on the glass for the first 2 courses. Over time (an hour to two) by the end of the dinner this had softened into its Sonoma Coast pinot profile - a hint of pine, cherry/raspberry, and some minerality (graphite-like, but that may just be stuck in my head from sharpening a few pencils earlier for the kids) with the acidity that made it sing.
