Just a quick one on this, the 2002 Dauvissat Chablis. On release this was nice, somewhat simple but deep for a village level Chablis. Opened a bottle tonight and it was showing great, it’s matured giving it more complexity with the secondary notes. Good finish. Nicely balanced, really a pleasure to drink. No big hurry but no need to wait. Reminds me why I buy village level Chablis. I think I paid about $20 for this on release and after only 6 or so years of cellaring, it’s really worth it. If this is my Wednesday night wine, I’m living well.
Cheers,
-Robert
This is often a really good chablis-equal to many other producers premier crus. For me, it’s somewhat hard to find, and seems to be allocated locally at about the same level as les clos.
Hey Robert,
Nice note. I’m not sure I’ve ever tried Dauvissat village. Good to see it is nice and can age. I have been delighted with the showing of my 2002 Forets, which also are showing well now.

Thanks for the note, Robert. Glad to hear your bottle wasn’t prem-ox’d.
I have several bottles of Dauvissat’s '07 and '08 Chablis and while I like Chablis on the young side, I found them to be particularly monolithic for village level wines upon release. I have high hopes for them in a few more years. Your note seems to validate that hope.
As an aside, it appears the pricing on this wine has jumped appreciably since the '02 vintage!
Great note.
Thanks Robert.
Thanks Robert! I’ve been looking for a post on these as I started to hanging onto a verticle of them starting with '06 to see how they holdup and improve. I really like the basic AOCs.
sounds great, Robert. What did you have with it?

Dauvissat’s “village” chablis is as good as any, maybe better. His holding is not that big and he also makes a “petit chablis” which is not as good. Buying “village” chablis, though, is tricky. In my experience, you really have to know who made it and what’s in it (among the issues is whether it is from the portlandian part of the village or the kimmeridgian side…just like with the 1er crus), how it was made, etc. The premimum for the 1er crus at most houses there, for me, has almost always been worth it. Dauvissat is a glaring exception. It is, as reported, rare to find…and it is, like the rest of the production, quite allocated. Great stuff. I do try to give them 10 years in bottle, as Vincent D. recommends…if I can…even the villages.
Thanks for the note, interestingly we had yesterday evening a half bottle of 2002 Foret which completely oxidised. Saved most of the bottle til lunch today and no change.
What a shame, and scary as I have a bunch of that one.
Cheers,
-Robert
